Into the Sunset with Fdn Jusu
Based in South Florida, Alexander Callaway, aka Fdn Jusu, is the Hip Hop rising artist whose music has been missing in your playlists. Fdn Jusu, has been releasing his profound and transcendent songs since 2019 but it wasn’t until late October of 2021 that we had the pleasure to listen to his new alternative EP, “Into the Sunset”.
“Into the Sunset” features five unique tracks that you will want to hear more than once. The EP begins with “Dirty” featuring Amilivenow, the song takes us to an acoustic ambiance having a certain initial enchantment. The chorus has a calm and relaxed tone to it and the instrumentation is full of interesting details throughout the entire song. The end of the song takes us back to the beginning, however, in this section there is a lack of diction ultimately dissolving into a fade out.
“Whatisitcostingya?” is the follow-up track. The mellow piano chords which start the song create a contrast with the strong vocals of Fdn Jusu. His voice carries the feeling of someone who has been hurt and is now in what feels like never-ending pain, this is also complemented with the detail that his vocals seem to be further away than the instrumentation giving it even more depth.
“Mia 23” begins unexpectedly with a fast beat, delivering a different sensation in comparison with the other songs from the EP. There is a specific moment where all the instruments play together causing an intentionally, or not, overwhelming perception. It has an abrupt ending to it, leaving the feeling that closure is also missing in action (MIA).
“04 Drive” takes us back again to a more slow-paced environment, where the harmonies take charge and lead us flowing through the continuity of the song. The ending has an intimate and reflective tone which is accompanied by the guitar.
The EP ends with the particular track that named it, “Into the Sunset”. This song is unlike any other I have ever listened to. It begins with a piano joined by various different voices saying the three words that name the track. It is exquisite how a song can be built with almost only three words, there is a clear opposition in between the words that are sung and the words that are talked, as well as the feminine voice and the masculine.
Fdn Jusu is clearly one to watch, he already gained me has a fan. He tackles important issues like self-love and feeling like you are not good enough, something we all might feel throughout our lives. The amount of vulnerability put into his work is outstanding, how he delivers his feelings through his vocals and lyrics seems to come so natural to him. He is not afraid of wearing his heart on his sleeve, he is not afraid of showing his emotions and I am not afraid to say I cannot wait for more honest and amazing invigorating songs.
