She so Persuasive: Doechii
Is it apparent to everyone TDE is showing no sign of slowing down upon Kendrick Lamar’s announcement of his final TDE project, or am I just “fanned out?” Top Dawg Entertainment continues to be the pinnacle of record label success since the emergence of Jay Rock, to the recent rollout of Doechii. Doechii will be another household name amongst Top Dawg Entertainment’s roster. Her alternative sound is perfect for today’s appreciation of genre bending music.
Doechii’s music is unapologetically feminine and black. Her artistry critiques the traditional ideas of femininity, seemingly always challenging what is deemed appropriate for women. The music video of Doechii’s song “Girls,” is a depiction of multifaceted black women. A “Girls Night In ” becomes a night of criminal mischief throughout the city, ending with Doechii and her squad in a parking lot cypher. Genius!
Doechii’s vision and attention to detail remains prominent in her music today. After her 2020 single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake'' went viral the following year, anticipation grew over Doechii’s debut album. “Crazy” and “Persuasive” are her recent singles, after releasing her 2021 EP, Bra-Less. Doechii’s unwavering commitment to her skills and vision flourishes through each project.
As of late, YouTube has shadow-banned and demonetized Doechii’s “Crazy” music video, due to depictions of violence. The thought provoking video is merely a sample of what’s to come from Doechii. Fortunately for us, Doechii’s artistic integrity ranks supreme. Her vision, therefore the music, will not suffer. I’ll be eagerly waiting on any news regarding Doechii‘s music, she is the current MC to keep close eyes on out of TDE. Where is Doechii’s album Top? The culture needed that yesterday Punch, can y’all make it happen?
