Complex by Katie Gregson-MacLeod

If you’re a regular user of TikTok, then you might just know about a new rising star, Katie Gregson-MacLeod. Hailing from the city of Inverness in Scotland, Gregson-MacLeod released a brief video of her new single “Complex”. After the internet went wild, Gregson-MacLeod signed a deal with Columbia Records to continue releasing music.

It’s clear why the young artist has gained such a huge following virtually overnight. “Complex (demo)”, now on Spotify, tells a moving story about unrequited love and the hard lessons learned along the way. Gregson-MacLeod sings in a hauntingly beautiful voice with an accompanying piano instrumental that creates an enchantingly melancholic sound.

Her powerful lyrics describe emotions everyone can relate to. With the title line of “I think he’s a good guy/But it’s complex/It’s a complex”, Gregson-MacLeod reminds us of how hard love can be. Oftentimes, we see things in a person that others don’t which can complicate how we view someone as a whole. And sometimes, this dynamic can become ‘a complex’ that lasts even after we have left that person.

It goes without saying, love is ‘complex’. The best way for people to unpack the myriad of emotions felt during relationships is with the help of art and music. “Complex (demo)” is the perfect song for when those feelings are hard to deal with and provides a sense of comfort for when you feel alone in that experience.

If you haven’t listened to Gregson-Macleod’s moving song yet, “Complex (demo)”, is now available on streaming platforms. For more information, follow Katie Gregson-MacLeod on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.
