One of One: Cantrell Has Never Had Anything to Prove

For rapper Cantrell — some of the best art comes from tragedy, and that leaves nothing else for him to prove. Cantrell’s most recent record, “THANK YOU 4 THE TRAGEDY” is a portrait of the pain that makes art resonate.

Through thirteen tracks Cantrell explores the treacherous journey to where he is now in his artistry. Cantrell raps on topics such as the aspirations of his younger self, losing friendships, and sacrifices made for the sake of creating something.

Cantrell’s record is uniquely introspective and shines a light upon the painful process behind his own music. His work raises the question—is art just a byproduct of the struggle?

To Cantrell the answer is easy: Art has always been the destination. Cantrell makes it clear that music is a result of suffering, which is the uniting theme of the record. Cantrell lets others know: He is grateful for the struggle because all roads led here—to become the talented, multifaceted artist he is today. Cantrell values authenticity above all else, and his honesty makes his bars remain genuine and relatable. From a tough upbringing, in “DREAMS OF A JIT” to the acceptance of loss in “NO FRIENDS”. The struggles of rapper Cantrell’s past have led him to believe there is still beauty to be found in the pain.

This unique perspective and Cantrell’s fresh sound make him a stand-out in any crowd, and for that reason alone: he has never had anything to prove.
