MEYY's 'Neon Angel'

If looking out a window at night to watch the rain fall could be captured in a sound, it would be in “Rain” by MEYY. The chill, almost lo-fi music creates the perfect backdrop for MEYY’s light, soothing but powerful voice. The soft, warmth of MEYY’s own singing is perfectly contradicted by Jelani Blackman’s deep, bass voice as he comes in with a verse that matches the energy of the song while bringing life to it.

The song is a perfect ending to her album ‘Neon Angel’, which consists of four songs total that have the same dreamlike quality to them as “Rain”. The opening track, “Orchid”, sets the tone with a relaxed, but minor key musical accompaniment as MEYY’s voice leads the listener through the music that can only be described as coming straight from her imagination like the listener is falling into her musical creativity.

The other two songs in the album “Do It” and “hyli” are MEYY speaking to a love interest, bridging the gap between “Orchid” and “Rain” which can be viewed as the beginning and ending to a night out. Both songs convey the intimate, comforting sense one person has with another when they’re alone, keeping the same energy throughout ‘Neon Angel’. The entire album is perfect for a rainy night in, driving around with friends, or just trying to relax.
