Gilldavinci is making it melt

Kansas City, Missouri is a town that isn’t typically known for its music. Since rapper Tech N9ne K.C. hasn’t been represented musically since the 90s and 2000s. Artist Gilldavinci looks to change his city’s under-the-radar narrative.

Gilldavinci was primarily influenced by A$AP Rocky and Joey Badass but after the passing of XXXTentacion, he was inspired to try his hand at musical expression. Initially rapping, Gilldavinci took his time in finding his own sound with his first attempts at music materializing in the mold of more traditional hip-hop. It wasn’t until meeting producer Fiocati that Gilldavinci transitioned to a more experimental and almost alternative sound akin to Travis Scott or Kid Cudi in the music’s ethereal sounds and spaciness in addition to loose rhyme patterns and lyrical structure. The music is just different, so much so that listeners can’t call it pop, alternative, or rap and since the production of the 2021 album As Above, So Below Gilldavinici and Fiocati have searched for a name for what they create eventually coining a name for their genre, electric reverb.

Gilldavinci uses his own life experiences to fuel his creative process. An example of this is the creative process of the most recent single Melt, which when broken down into three parts is representative of the conversation Gilldavinci had with himself at the time, something like a therapy session. Melt is about Gilldavinci doing him and being himself and advancing in his own lane as the things around him melt into oblivion.

2021’s As Above, So Below was Gilldavinci’s first album release on DSPs. Gilldavinci and producer Fiocati deliberate a sound to fans that is original and unique. As Above, So Below highlights tracks Heist of a Lifetime which features a bumpy Michael Jackson sample, and Save Her as some of the songs that fans gravitated to most.

In an interview with Gilldavinci, he hinted at another project in the upcoming months with the main difference being that this next project will be darker thematically than his previous one. Gilldavinci talks about how the music has the most traction now than ever before which puts his confidence at an all-time high. Gilldavinci’s music mimics his life and wants fans to walk away from the music with a deeper understanding and love for themselves, as the music mimics his life path. As Gilldavinci continues to climb in the underground, check out Melt and keep watch for a new project in the upcoming months.
