Journee releases a smooth single titled, "Down Bad"

Less than three minutes long, “Down Bad” is further proof that Journee needs to be on your radar.

Since 2019, the R&B singer and songwriter has released several singles, leading up to an EP titled It’s Not You, It’s Me. Within Journee’s music is a suave sound, balanced by the right amount of edge, and enriched by her sweet voice. With straightforward and clever lyrics, Journee creates music that’s irresistible to listen to. On August 11th, the songstress released her new single, “Down Bad.”

Easing listeners into “Down Bad” is an acoustic guitar, which slips into the background once a stronger beat kicks in. While the production keeps listeners bopping, it’s never harsh or overly intense. There’s a pleasant, romantic vibe that lifts the song and captivates listeners. The chorus especially, complete with light vocals, harmonies, and strings, is easy to get hooked on.

Casual yet direct, Journee makes her adoration for someone clear with lines such as, “Kinda dig yo last name/Boy, can I have it?” Although the feelings comprising this song may be highly relatable, even if they’re not, “Down Bad” is still a velvety must-listen.

To fuel her imagination and console her, Journee has consistently relied on music. Raised in San Jose, California with her four siblings, Journee’s dad sparked a love for music within her, which only expanded as time passed. Journee’s songwriting skills were also cultivated through the assistance of her dad, but her dedication toward writing swelled during the time she spent alone, allowing her to express and soothe herself.

Now at 25, Journee is an artist who creates music that’s personal and encourages women to respect themselves. “Down Bad” is already engaging, but with Journee’s charming voice and honest lyrics, the single might prompt listeners to check out more of her discography.
