DJ KC Continues to "Run It Up"

One thing that's not a common occurrence anymore in music is compilation albums. The main reason for their disappearance can be attributed to the lack of producers who know how to actually produce and not just produce the instrumental. Legends like the late great Quincy Jones laid the blueprint for current producers to be the quarterback of a song’s full construction and minimize their talent to being just a beat maker.

Atlanta-based producer, DJ KC is keeping the spirit of Quincy alive with the release of her newly released compilation project, “Run It Up.” Made up of 11 songs, this project encapsulates the wide variety of talent that the Atlanta underground has to offer. Anyone who has ever been to the A will easily notice how creatively expressive everyone is, and “Run It Up” gives the rest of the world a front-row seat to the next class of emerging artists who aren't afraid to push the boundaries.

The creative chemistry between DJ KC and the ensemble cast of artists on “Run It Up” really helped fuel so much of this project. With DJ KC already having a rapport with most of these artists as their go-to recording/mixing engineer, she already has a firm understanding of their sound. This works to her advantage as she is able to challenge them with beats that they normally wouldn't hop on yet they still compliment their style.

“Run It Up” is a really solid listen for anyone looking for a refreshing sound. My top picks for this project are “Digits” featuring Lilkarti & “In A Mood” featuring Kenarri and Pretty Wun. Both tracks effortlessly DJ KC’s flawless production while putting the spotlight on some of Atlanta’s brightest talents.
