You Know If You Know: Genesis Renji

I said a prayer this morning. I asked the Lord to remove my people from the shackles of hookah and lighting fireworks days after July 4th. Who is that even for? I need to know. Beyond that matter though I spent time this week looking for the next song you should put 100 streams into back to back. As always I milly rocked through an abundance of SoundCloud profiles and struggle links until I came across an undeniable slap. ‘You Know If You Know’ by Genesis Renji. 

Sidenote: That is a great fucking song title and I love it but for the remainder of this writeup I’m going to refer to it as ‘YKIYK’ so keep up my pals. 

‘YKIYK’ finds Genesis Renji reminding us that no matter what anybody else does or how they move they ain’t him. He stakes his claim as a step above the best around and makes a compelling case with each sharp bar and well-thought-out verse. Accompanied by jaded keys and choppy 808s Genesis lands on the mark with this one. 

“She love me she getting it tatted” is also 100% the new motto. Your queen has to be willing to get your face tatted off the strength of love ASAP. That way anytime a nigga at the gas station shoots his shot she can just lift her sleeve and show him that you’re right there ready to block said shot with LeBron-type athletic abilities. Kudos to Genesis for that line. 

Not to be outdone Von Alexander makes a guest appearance here with a verse that can only be compared to seeing Stone Cold Steve Austin run down the ramp with a steel chair to raise hell. He finds a really good pocket to rap in as he makes sure the song doesn’t fall off. The second verses are always the hardest but he made this look easy.

I just got word the lakers might get Kemba Walker for Kyle Kuzma and I just know Jeanie Buss had to have pulled up on Brad Stevens with gloccs pointed everywhere for that to happen. Only way.
