Who is Emm Triplin?

You may not be familiar with Eem Triplin, but as soon as you hear his first song, the sound he brings in his music will seem unmistakable from any other. The kind that you listen to and inevitably think to yourself: “that’s gotta be him”.

While the rapper’s career didn’t start recently, as he’s got singles from 2018, his recent rise has been more noticeable now than in his early days. Specifically at the end of last year, when he performed at Rolling Loud New York in September, he went viral for supposedly performing for only 13 people. He even tweeted about it. Nowadays, a few months later, the artist already has over 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

In March 2022 the rapper released AWKWARD FREESTYLE, which really became a thing only a few months later, but the track itself is a good indicator of what the artist Eem Triplin is becoming over time. The song, which revolves around a sample of the instrumental from Awkward off Tyler, The Creator's 2013 album Wolf, showcases a side that Triplin seems to be exploring more recently, especially in his new music video, TELL ME IM RIGHT.

The visuals don't lie. The music, sonically, may not follow the same direction as Tyler’s, but the style that the rapper follows, and especially the visual aesthetic of his new music video, reveal a possible inspiration from Tyler in this aspect, specifically from his 2017 era when he released "Flower Boy." Triplin for sure doesn't fall behind when it comes to utilizing what Tyler extensively explored during that time (and still explores today, to be honest): vibrant colors in both the visual aesthetic and his clothing.

His main thing, however, which makes him unmistakable and obviously unique, as mentioned at the beginning of the text, is primarily his voice. The more technical part of things I leave to the producers reading here, but his somewhat robotic voice and the use of certain effects not only make him different, but also fire.

That being said, producers and artists in general, don’t only learn from Eem Triplin but let him serve as inspiration: what he does is unique. Don't copy, but be influenced by what is worth it. It's fire.
