Up Now with Chris Patrick

Born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, Chris Patrick is hitting the Hip-Hop scene with his meaningful lyrics and his versatile vocal style. In 2019, Chris teamed up with Baby Phace and ItzWonderfull, together they released the EP WTF that contains great tracks like “F3ndi” and “Night Shift”. It was in 2020 that Chris started getting some recognition for his talent. The rapper released the electrifying single “Swish” which got featured in the NBA 2K21 game. The single carries a dense heavy bass followed by an intoxicating strong beat with different rap flow switches. There is an alternation between moments where the voice hovers more on its own, ending with the sensation that the vocals are going further away.

After the success of his single, Chris gifted us an ambitious nine-track album, “From the Heart, Vol.2”. The album delivers tracks full of emotion, tackling important subjects like mental health and staying true to yourself. “Dreams” is one of my favorite songs from the album, it starts by building this relaxed atmosphere that contrasts with an energetic fast paced rap. It carries lyrics full of meaning and the elements of the song end up complementing and antagonizing each other at the same time. “3AM” is another song from the album that really caught my eye. It has an electrifying beginning reminiscing to a soundscape with a dreamy synth and a soft beat. In this track we can witness a more R&B vibe, Chris shows us he is not just a rapper but also a great singer, proving to be versatile while delivering a catchy chorus.

In 2021, Chris Patrick did not let us down, putting out a few singles and doing some features like “Bag” with Backpack Ben. The song, “Gang Activity” begins with distorted sounds, in a more aggressive tone, addressing the traumas Chris has gone through while growing up. There is a good use of inflections of the different words in moments that deserve a different emphasis, like the vocals that are modified at certain points of the song. In 2022, Chris Patrick released “Up Now”, a track that addresses the path of the singer from having nothing to enjoying the success of his career and overcoming self-doubt. The song makes interesting use of classic elements like the flute that dialogues with the vocals, mixed with heavy trap vibes. Chris has shown his talent over the last couple of years, he is a skilled songwriter, and his songs are filled with feeling, so make sure you keep up with him, he is a rising artist that will be on the Hip Hop charts sooner than later.
