Souvenirs by Jeremy Loops

Born and raised in South Africa, Jeremy Loops combines the contagious African rhythms with an uplifting folk energy all while taking advantage of the power of looping. Jeremy put himself and his work out in the World in 2011 by releasing an EP with his own name. Later the EP was made unavailable due to the release of his first album, “Trading Change” in 2015 which contained tracks from the previous release. “Trading Change” merges eloquent harmonies with an upbeat folky instrumentation. The album reached number 1 in South Africa, some of the hits included are “Sinner”, “Down South” featuring Motheo Moleko and “Higher Stakes”.

In 2018 Jeremy Loops presented us with his next album, Critical as Water. The album follows the same genre as the previous one, nonetheless, in the new album we have tracks like “Vultures” in which the lyrics lead us through an emotional, questionable darkness, but the appeasing instrumental gives a hopeful warm tone to the song. The following track “Freak” is an anthem against materialism, we can sense some reggae vibes combined with a vigorous horn section. It’s important to highlight the connection of Jeremy with water, being a surfer brought the singer close to the element of which he talks about a lot in his songs, “Waves” is an example of that and so is the title of the album.

In late 2021 Jeremy Loops gifted us with a collection of his memories, his 5 track EP “Souvenirs”. The EP carries a warm feeling all around, “This Town” featuring Ladysmith Black Mambazo is an energetic fearless tune that gives us an insight into the Afro folk culture. Through the next set of tracks Jeremy tackles important issues however he never leaves the cheerful and hopeful tone out of his songs. In “Postcards” he describes what it’s like being in a long distance relationship while in “Sit Down Love “ the singer details on how to overcome misunderstandings and disagreements.

Nothing says road trip music more than the songs of Jeremy Loops, so get your keys, take the wheel and enjoy the musical trip.
