Mutual By Flozigg

Halloween just doesn't really feel like Halloween anymore, my friends. Yes, I know a new Michael Myers movie just dropped, and Velma costumes are at an all-time high, but I have to be honest, I just wasn't feeling the spooky spirit. So I skipped the trick or treating and parties; I didn't even watch the Sanderson sisters this year; I broke all of the traditions. I was in the crib, washed slithering through the Apple Music jungle, when I came across the "Beige" EP by Flozigg.

While I enjoyed the EP, the song that had me absolutely stuck was "Mutual." A song the Miami artist describes as "A mellow song about reciprocity and power dynamics in relationships." Written, produced, and recorded by Flozigg, this one is special. The Vocal performance is immaculate in the way he effortlessly switches between multiple tones while singing before finishing the second verse off with a well-placed rap. The multifaceted beat is entrancing and lays perfectly, all due to a mix that would make you believe he had to have some major label behind him.

"Are you running away? I can't even tell sometimes you come and you stay," Flozigg echoes before going into the most hypnotizing yet simple part of the song. After what might have been ten listens back to back (probably 17, but who's counting?) I found myself randomly singing "Yeah yeah yeah yeah" around the house at the most random times.

Sidenote: If we're ever chillin, and I randomly start singing a song that's stuck in my head, please do not join in. This is my stage/music video. You are just the background person, b. Focus on the adlibs or just Harlem shake but let me hold this down myself; ain't nobody in my imaginary crowd coming to see you, Otis.

Anyway, though…20 yeah yeah yeah's later, and I'm still running this back. So you should as well, my friends. Go listen to the entire "Beige" EP by Flozigg, Play Mutual, and remember you have about a week of normal life left before Mariah Carey is all over your Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal screens.
