MIA by Abby Jasmine

You ever just be awake thinking about all of the bullshit you could've avoided in the last week alone? That's where I find myself, my friends. It's 1 am as I write this, and it has been a month-long week. Not to mention the front page of Apple Music is bombarding me with artists and songs I give absolutely no fucks about and no disrespect to the artists there. Still, I'm very close to walking through the Apple Music corporate offices like Stone Cold in the 90s.Through the magic of knowing people who know good music, I ended up with a new Abby Jasmine record in my library.

"MIA" is the last song on Abby's I Hate You 2 EP, and that is the perfect title for this EP. This song feels like my ex gathered up our text thread and sent it to Abby for inspiration. It's a slow B.P.M. calm vibe with a beat that has a trance-like baseline throughout. Abby's soft voice lays over each instrument perfectly placed. Abby sings, "I got 99 problems and you all of them," and I'm taken aback. Do you know how terrible you have to be for a woman to believe you are all 99 of her problems? On my worst day, I've probably been a good 32 of a woman's problems but 99? That's doing Jordan numbers in the toxicity column. Abby paints the picture of a scorned woman who's trying to let her partner know they're on their last chance.

Sidenote: If she tells you this is your last chance, remember that you truly only have seven chances left. Don't rest on those, though; be a better person. Or learn how to lie better…right? Nah, never mind, go the "better person" route. That's usually the best way. Trust me.

"You gone make me run away again," Abby croons, and the warning levels are high. She ends the hook just as the beat switches, and if you know anything about me, you know I truly enjoy a good beat switch up at the end of a song. So inject that kind of shit into my veins. The song is a vibe that gives me shades of Jhene or H.E.R. That being said, Abby Jasmine has her own unique voice here that I'll be listening to moving forward. She also dropped a visual to this that's worth the watch.

Alright, my friends, I've got calls to make and bags to chase bright and early. I'm lying; I probably won't wake up till noon. I'm still going to do that stuff, though watch me. In the meantime, stream "MIA" and watch the video, and remember it's not an actual breakup until she makes you pack up your PlayStation.
