Jaalid's New Single Demands Recognition
Jaalid has released his new single, "Made It Out". The Boston-based artist brings a song with introspective production, leaving the listener deep in thought. With an interpolation that includes the line "all my teachers thought I would be dead by now," it couldn't be more poignant.
Jaalid's verses are also very impressive! The references he brings in at least two lines allude to basketball, with "11 rings on my mind like Bill," referring to the Boston Celtics idol, Bill Russell, and "I can feel it in the air like Phil," possibly an homage to the legendary Phil Jackson.
Another verse that caught my attention was, "People wanna ask how I'll act when I'm rich, would I still be me?" Amid the introspective beat mentioned earlier, Jaalid delivers this line that conveys not only the rapper's thoughts but also the thoughts of any musician coming from the underground and aspiring to grow in the industry. It reminded me of, more recently, Lil Uzi Vert's new song "Pluto to Mars," with the line "If the lights go off, baby, would you ever change?" Different circumstances and vibes, but the idea is the same, that fame can affect people. Well, personally, this verse got to me.
Overall, the song is great and deserves to be listened to. Jaalid brings something not necessarily groundbreaking, but what he presents, he does it well. "Made It Out" deserves your attention.
