GUSS sets the tone with, FWM

Toronto is home to a booming Rap and R&B scene that stands firmly planted in its unique blends of often-used eery piano notes, gloomy strings, and filtered 808s. It's a sound often imitated by outsiders and though it's been around for more than a decade it shows no sign of fading away. Especially with the amount of talented rappers and singers the city continues to thrust onto the world stage. Year after year we see more and more artists emerge from the home of the Maple Leafs and this year seems to be rap artist Guss’ turn to step into the spotlight with his latest release FWM.

“If I’m acting out of pocket, probably cause my pockets full,” Guss raps in a melodic autotune-assisted tone. The opening line sets the tone and lets you know the T-dot native is perfectly fine with being braggadocious over the bouncing villainous instrumental. Guss does a great job filling the first verse with exceptional wordplay and showering the hook with hypnotic harmonies. The second verse finds the Toronto emcee switching the pace and shifting into top gear as he continues to bring a dark vibe to the song.

FWM is available on all major streaming platforms and is a nice introduction to Guss if you happen to miss the release of his Day N Night album back in April 2023. Go spin FWM then play the album right after.
