Amaria is All for You
My friends, R&B is always going to hit differently when done right. The multi-layered production and soft cashmere-like vocals that hold hands as they caress your eardrums are genuinely undefeated. It’s not the easiest genre to participate in, but Tampa-based singer-songwriter Amaria effortlessly hits the mark. She recently released her second EP titled All For You, with features from Destin Conrad, Amber Navran, and PHABO.
The intro/title track finds Amaria losing a war between her heart and mind over an ex-lover. She’s about to spin the block and ready to let him (Destin Conrad in this case) know. “I’d come around if you’re down and you want me to,” Amaria croons in a sultry tone, soft as the fur on a chinchilla coat. The chemistry between her and Destin is perfect here. Destin makes sure to step in with a voice, pen, and verse that picks up the vibe right where Amaria left off. The duo’s voices mesh so well that I wouldn’t mind hearing a collar EP from both of them, but that’s a story for another day.
As the first track fades out, I need you to pay close attention because Amaria is about to go on an immaculate run of back-to-back slaps. Amaria does a perfect job of blessing us with songs, one right after another, in a cohesive fashion. Like Lie To You, Secrets and one that really stands out is track four, Only. I don’t know if it’s because Amaria’s voice here is giving me visions of Aaliyah and Solange at times. Or if it’s the hypnotic baseline strumming underneath an easy-listening sax solo that meets the singer’s angelic voice at the height of the song.
All For You is a well-done EP that makes me want more. The kind of EP that you wish was a 15-track album. “Damaged” featuring PHABO has probably been played 20 times already (at least 10 more in the process of writing this). It’s the story that paints a back-and-forth between two lovers. And when you hear this one it’s going to resonate because you’ve either been in the situation or know someone going through it. Damaged is my favorite song on the project but, the project is so good that that could change multiple times within the next week. This a solid entry in Amaria’s catalog that deserves your attention.
