Ohio’s Own, Masakiio

Are you a fan of Yu Yu Hakusho, the 90’s, early 2000’s or video games? If you answer yes to any of these things, then let Clout Geo diversify your music library. The aesthetics surrounding Masakiio is a Y2K fever dream. Masakiio’s ability of storytelling is evident throughout his catalogue, whether the track has eerie chords over anime openings or 808’s and Nintendo soundtrack loops, Masakiio’s music is rooted in lyricism. Samurai Champloo, Pokémon Stadium, and Odd future are some of the sources of Masakiio’s creativity. His music is a refreshing alternative to what is currently trending in hip hop music.

He is an indie producer and artist paying his dues in Cleveland, Ohio. He would begin dabbling with music his senior year of high school, and continued to pursue his passion throughout his college career, performing most of his shows at his alma mater, Bowling Green State. He witnessed early success with tracks such as Light in the Dark, reaching 16,000 plays to date. One of Masakiio’s favorite performances occurred during the pandemic, when the Summit Shack approached him with a Minecraft Virtual Concert concept, during the height of the Covid outbreak. Masakiio’s career experienced some difficulties during the pandemic, making the 2020 show in Pittsburgh his last in person performance to date. Fortunately, Masakiio’s has been doing his due diligence preparing for a project released in 2022.

Masakiio released an EP titled Life’s A Game in 2021, with the intention to keep his audience engaged while he finishes the next project. The thirteen-minute project fully embodies Masakiio’s vibes and talent, Gone and BRB being my favorite songs of the EP.

Masakiio and I were able to sit down and discuss his early experiences in making music, what to expect from him moving forward, and more in our interview. The link for our interview is down below, find out how Masakiio was resilient and relentless throughout shady promotion opportunities in Ohio. I’m Clout Geo with Zeal & Pristine searching high and low for independent creatives paving their own lane, free press is good press.
