Saint Harison Shows His True Colors
Have you heard of Saint Harison? He’s The Southhampton, UK-born singer-songwriter who released his debut EP Lost A Friend filled with powerful vocals and somber tones earlier this year. Surely you’ve heard of COLORSxSTUDIOS, right? The unique aesthetic music platform has featured the likes of Quavo & Takeoff, Doja Cat, Glorilla, Larry June, and more. Saint recently took to the platform to perform his viral hit Ego Talkin which is high on my list of favorite songs this year. A beautiful ballad of an intro that eases into a mesmerizing hook that will have you attempting the impressive and addicting run that lays over the beat.
Raised by a father whose side of the family was big on Motown and a mother with a love for Amy Winehouse Saint draws influence from multiple sides of the music spectrum. He’s got a pen that reminds me of other introspective artists like Adele and Frank Ocean but a voice that I can’t quite compare to anyone. A strong falsetto with the voice you’d expect out of someone who taught choir. His song Why Didn’t You Call is a magnificent melody filled with vulnerability and relatable lyrics for anyone who’s ever been ghosted by a friend or lover. The standout on the EP though may be Ego Talkin. A track that sees Harison expressing what many of us have felt during an argument where you go with your angry thoughts instead of your honest ones. The song gets even better when you hear the COLORSxSTUDIOS performance version.
Added runs, an even stronger vocal performance, and a slight tweak to an already perfect pattern over a sorrow-filled piano and muddied kick. I’d rather push on all your buttons to start a fight before I apologize, he croons. Instantly I can think of several arguments I’ve had in the past with this exact mindset pushing me to the point of no return. Soon as the beat drops, we’re met with a quick bridge and a hook that carries an already superb song. That ain’t me, though; that’s just my ego talkin'. Harison harmonizes right before crushing the viral “ego challenge” run as if he’s trying to show us, “Yeah the song is great but my voice is one of the best things you’ll hear”. If you’ve ever taken a vocal lesson, I don’t have to tell you just how incredible a run like that is, let alone putting it in a song.
The EP, The song, and the performance all prove Saint Harison is not only here to stay but he’s also not just here to take part, he’s here to take over. You can check out the performance below and stream the song on all major DSPs. I may have run this song back a plethora of times in the last week and I'm pretty sure you will too. I'm never wrong about these things and trust me that isn't just my ego talkin’.
