MAY-A and her Pride Month anthems
June is known as Pride Month for the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout the month, members of the community are often looking for music and entertainment that represents their identity. For any women who love women, singer MAY-A might just offer that sense of representation.
MAY-A’s song “Time I Love to Waste” was released in 2021 and begins with a mellow guitar melody before moving into a pop style of music. The song describes her feelings as she falls in love with a woman, which can trigger the listener’s memories of their own insecurities falling in love mixed with pure invigoration.
Her song “Apricots'' signifies a common occurrence within the LGBTQ+ community of falling in love with someone who identifies as straight. Throughout the song she puts emphasis on the relationship she has created in her head, while she watches the other person get involved with a man.
MAY-A has also collaborated with electronic musician, Flume, to create the song, “Say Nothing” which is about a breakup and the idea of losing someone emotionally. MAY-A’s music can be seen as a source of familiarity for those in the LGBTQ+ community or anyone experiencing the intense emotions surrounding love. Ultimately, her music is a solid representation for the community of women who love women.
